Quick reference: neon sign sizes and typical costs
What custom LED neon signs commonly run, so you know what to expect before you request a quote.
| Sign size | Typical price range |
|---|---|
| Small (12 to 18 in wide, single word) | $80 to $180 |
| Medium (24 to 36 in wide, short phrase) | $150 to $350 |
| Large (48 in+ wide, logo or multi-line) | $350 to $800+ |
| Custom shape or logo cutout | $300 to $1,000+ |
Most signs sold today are LED neon flex, not glass tube neon. LED is lighter, shatterproof, cheaper to make and ship, and uses far less power, which is why nearly every custom sign shop, including small independent makers, works in LED now. Glass neon still exists for restoration work and a specific retro look, but expect a higher price and a longer lead time.
How much does a custom neon sign cost?
Small single-word signs typically start around $80 to $180. Expect $150 to $350 for a short phrase or name, and $350 or more for a large, multi-line, or custom-shaped sign.
Is LED neon or glass neon better?
LED neon (flex) is the standard choice for most custom signs today: shatterproof, lighter, cheaper to make, and cooler to the touch. Glass tube neon still has a specific retro glow that some buyers prefer, but it costs more and is fragile.
How long does a custom neon sign take to make?
Most sign makers quote 1 to 3 weeks for a standard order, longer for a complex custom shape or during a busy season like the holidays.
What font works best for a neon sign?
Script and cursive fonts read as the most classically neon, but bold block letters are easier to read from a distance and hold up better as a small sign. Pick based on where the sign will hang and how far away people will read it from.
Can I power a neon sign with a regular wall outlet?
Yes, nearly all LED neon signs plug into a standard outlet with the included USB or wall adapter. Check the specific product listing for exact power requirements before you buy.
