Most print QR failures come down to three things: the code is too small for its scan distance, the quiet zone, the blank margin around the code, gets covered by other artwork or a background color, or the code is printed with too little contrast, like a light color on a busy photo background. What is the minimum size for a printed QR code?

About 0.75 to 1 inch for something scanned up close, like a product tag or business card. Larger codes meant to be scanned from further away, like posters or signage, need to scale up accordingly, see the quick reference chart above.

What is the quiet zone on a QR code?

The blank margin around the code, at least 4 modules wide on every side. Scanners use it to detect where the code starts and stops; covering it with text, logos, or a busy background is the most common reason a printed code fails to scan.

Should I use PNG or SVG for print?

SVG. It is a vector format that scales to any size with perfectly sharp edges, unlike a PNG, which gets blurry or pixelated if you scale it up past its original resolution.

Can I add a logo to the center of my QR code?

Keep it small, up to about 10% of the code's area, since the built-in error correction can recover from limited data loss. A logo any larger risks the code becoming unreadable; test any custom code with several phones before printing it at scale.

Why won't my QR code scan even though it looks fine?

Check contrast first: dark code on a light background, with no color inversion. Then check the quiet zone is not covered, and that the code has not been stretched or skewed unevenly during layout, which distorts the module grid.
